Three Simple Ways to Motivate Yourself Today!
Are you having a hard time getting things done? Are you making no steps toward achieving your goals and dreams? Could you use a little "motivation"? Here are three easy things that will help you get there one day at a time. 1-Review your Goals first thing in the morning. It is so easy to lose sight of where you want to go. You might have a Great Big Dream or perhaps you just want to get a promotion at work. Maybe you have an elaborate detailed action plan or perhaps only a general idea. Most people do know what they want, and some know exactly how to get it. But, many people get bogged down in the day-to-day business of life that they don't have time, energy or inclination to "go for it? The biggest obstacle in achieving goals & dreams is often just choosing what you want, clearly defining it, and reminding yourself! Don't let the day-to-day details keep you from seeing the big picture. 2-Decide one, just one action you could take toward your goal. Just one will get you going. Perhaps you have flow charts or to-do lists already completed-just pick whatever is your next action step and make some progress, no matter how small. If you are having a very busy day, pick a small thing, like checking on pricing for business cards. If you have more time, design the cards. If you have a really busy day and you see no time, take 10 minutes and plan time for the rest of the week for working on your goals-this will count as your one action, because making time for your dreams is essential, and sometimes it can be a real challenge. 3-Reward yourself. It's a good idea to have a list of mini-rewards for those days when you can only spend five minutes toward your goal, as well as progressively better rewards. Of course the best reward of all will be achieving your dream, but to spur you along while you are on the journey, have some small rewards when you make progress, and even when you put forth a good effort toward progress. Rewards can be as simple as allowing yourself to soak in a bubble bath instead of your usual quick shower. Some great ideas for mini rewards: a phone call to your best "cheerleader?who always makes you feel like you can conquer anything; ten extra minutes stretching after your workout; dessert; a manicure; a cuddle on the sofa with your sweetie; a new houseplant. You get the idea-little pleasures that make it all worthwhile, don't cost a fortune and make you smile. Now, don't you want to get started? Good luck & Happy Dreams! P.S. The Doomsday Device ... The physical Brain In Action Our physical brains quickly and easily handle mundane sequences of operations, or processes without question. It repeats processes like a machine: A»B»C»...»Z». Merriam-Webster's Dictionary defines the word process to mean "a series of actions, operations, or motions involved in the accomplishment of an end". Heartbeat, breathing, and digestion are processes that occur without a single thought about what comes next. But, in many cases, our movement has become so consistent, that life itself becomes one of the mechanistic processes of the physical brain. Although, life is supposed to be dynamic, the brain only handles what it knows---what it has learned and what is sequenced. Get The Man Right One Saturday morning, a minister could not think of a sermon to write. He simply could not get inspired. He stared out of the window, at the birds splashing in the bird-bath. His mind was blank, as was the sheet of paper on his writing desk. Selective Perspective Picture this: A mother and daughter are looking at the snowfall from the front widow of their home. The daughter thinks: "Great, No school tomorrow." While Mom is thinking, "Great, how will I get to work tomorrow?" Your Biggest Do it Yourself Project When I meet people and tell them what I do, I often hear, "Oh, you are a motivational speaker," with some amount of assuredness in their voice. While I realize there are many speakers that people lump into this category (some who are my friends and mentors), I strongly disagree with that label. Growing Out of Your Comfort Zone It has been said that "if you are not growing, you're dying." As human beings, we are on a constant journey called life. Rick Warren has been quite successful at stimulating thought and faith in his fine book, A Purpose Driven Life, suggesting that we are all here on Earth for a reason. I would like to propose that the concept of success is purpose-driven too. Earl Nightingale referred to success as the "continuing pursuit of a worthy ideal" and spoke of it often. I submit then, that success is not a destination, but a purposeful journey. To Boost Your Brain, Move That Body! If you really want to be at your absolute peak mentally, if you want to have a dynamic and well functioning brain, an essential component of your program must include regular physical exercise. Does that surprise you? Motivation: Tearing Down Your Own Limitations Q.: I've always been sort of cynical about all this motivational stuff. Lots of rah-rah but no how-to. Now I see all these commercials that talk about no limits, no boundaries, etc. But there are real limits, and I think this stuff misleads a lot of people. What do you think? What is Success? Everyone wants success. People talk about setting goals and positive thinking and getting to the top. However, most of these same people never really define what success means to them. Challenge Yourself - Stretch Your Boundaries Daily! Many times we fall into a sedentary lifestyle because we fear forward movement. We eventually feel as though we've fallen into a rut and can't seem to escape. However, this is where we tend to forget that part of moving forward in life is to continue challenging yourself and your abilities.
