Does Your Theme Contain Character, Conflict, ResolutionNick Vernon Creative Writing Tips For a theme to work and the story, which will revolve around the theme, it has to contain three things
Whats the reason for this If your theme doesnt contain these three essential elements, then you wont be writing a proper short story. It might turn out to be an essay instead. Because without 1 Characters You cant achieve emotional depth. Readers become engrossed in stories because of the characters in them. They either become the character sympathize, or read about an interesting person empathize. Emotional depth is achieved when readers use their imagination and senses and/or experiences to live the story through the characters. 2 Conflict Your story will be boring. Why Without conflict, something to stir things up, nothing happens. And a story, in which nothing happens, is one not worth writing about. Your characters dont lead carefree lives. Well, not in the instance you are writing about them. In that part of their lives they are faced with a problem. They want something and cant get it because of the conflict, which is preventing them to do so. And its that conflict and the struggle the characters has to undergo that keeps us readers interested and in suspense. Will the character succeed or wont he And when is this all going to happen And how is it all going to happen 3 Resolution Something that starts has to finish, one way or another. Once you have created great characters, which the reader will come to care about, and you have placed them in conflict, that conflict at the end of your story has to be resolved. The characters will achieve their goals or they wont. That doesnt matter. You can end your story as you please and as it suits your story but you have to end it. Ending the story means resolving the conflict. Does your theme contain character, conflict, resolution

Writing an entire book seemed completely overwhelming, and so, for a long time, I contented myself with writing short articles. One day, inspiration for an article hit me and, as I started writing, paragraphs began flowing out at an enormous rate. Before I knew it, a rather lengthy piece was developing. It was too long to be an article, so, I decided it would not hurt to try self-publishing a little booklet. Was I ever surprised! The first printing of this 32-page black and white booklet sold out within a week. Pulling Sales with Your Ad Copy One of the best marketing tools available to your internet business is good sales ad copy. This can pull in sales faster than just about anything. Nonfiction Idea Generators The hardest part of nonfiction writing is finding a subject to write about. Unless you’re a student or a professional writer no one is going to select a topic for you. That means you have to come up with your own themes. If you’re like most writers, your subject matter will be things that interest you. I used the headings listed below to generate ideas for my writing. Hopefully these idea generators will help you become a more productive writer. A Quick Guide to ISBNs for Self-Publishers A Quick Guide to ISBNs for Self-Publishers 7 Deadly Mistakes that Cost You Money and Assignments Sometimes, you just dont get second chances. Freelance writing works a little that way. If youve offended an editor, its quite unlikely that shes going to work with you again. If you dont muster up the courage and ask for a higher payment rate, you wont get that chance till the next acceptance. And if you sell all rights for less, you write away all future income from the sale of that piece. How To Break Into Print Publishing The big question. Do you submit directly to the publishers, or do you find an agent who will do that for you Based on anecdotal evidence Ive heard, it can work either way. The bottom line is, if a publisher reads what he can sell, hell buy it. It doesnt matter if it comes from an author or an agent. The trick is getting him to read it. Thats always your focus. How to Have an Effective Reading Group Writing leads to reading. Therefore, its only fair to supply my readers with sufficient information on creating an effective reading group, since the last article was based on writing groups. "Manuscripts Wanted" - Questions You Should Ask The Publisher Before You Sign There are days when I feel as if everyone I know is a writer, and that they are all looking for the same thing, to be heard. The pursuit of finding someone to accept a manuscript for publication is at best disheartening. Many begin to feel that continued rejection is about as miserable as a writer will ever feel it is not. Signing with the wrong publisher not only brings misery in a new and clever package, but it can also quite possibly destroy the inclination to write. Becoming the Total Package Being a great writer is no longer enough if you plan to score a bigpublishing deal, especially as a nonfiction author. Creating A Great Print Newsletter The traditional print media newsletter is still useful even in the rapidly changing age of the Internet and IT. Characters In A Romance Novel Before you even begin writing your novel, you need to know who your characters will be. Minimally, you would want two major characters, the hero and the heroine. They will interact mostly with each other throughout the novel. How they interact with each other will determine the outcome of the story. Will they resist each other in the beginning of the story and by the end, fall in love Or will they fall in love in the beginning of the story and then be driven apart by conflict Once youve chosen them, then you need to decide what age they are, their personality traits, and their names.
