The Illusion of a Final Goal
"..... there is no final goal. There is always further to go. It is a voyage of unending discovery, and as in all such voyages, what is gathered by the wayside is often as valuable as what is found at the destination." The game of life and success is the game of illusions! Why do I make such a comment after explaining about how to achieve your goals? It's an illusion because once you reach the goal you don't stop taking the action. A lot of people, when they are setting their goals to reach somewhere, they think that reaching it is the end. This, as I stated is an illusion. When the person goes to the gym with the goal of a beautiful physique, it is a noble goal to strive for. However, it doesn't end there. What happens when the person reaches it? Does that mean the end of the action? No! The person now has to maintain that body that they have taken so long to reach. Due to the disciplines and practices that they have undertaken in order to reach this point, it is now ingrained in them to take the action. The person cannot envision a day when they stop taking this action entirely. This habit was formed by consistency. In the same way, a person who wants to be successful does not end the quest once he/she reaches that level of success. It's now time to maintain that success by continuing to take action as well as to make more of their potential. A person who has reached the initial level of success that they have strived for has also developed so many disciplines that have become habits that it's now easier for them to reach higher goals. If you have learned how to develop new habits at one time, it becomes a lot easier to develop another one. In this aspect, the gym teaches you that reaching your goal is not the end, rather it's the beginning. You never knew you could reach this goal, and now you are here! Imagine how much more you can do that you never thought possible. I don't think anyone has ever seen this truth! Reaching your goal is not the end. It is only the beginning. The beginning of exploring your full potential is realized when you achieve what you once thought to be impossible! Now you can realize more and more of your potential. Realizing your goals is the beginning step of setting even higher goals for yourself! The journey never ends! It goes on until you realize that your potential is so great that even if you live to be a million years you can never exhaust it! In the amount of time that you now have, see how much of that you can tap! Don't end with the achievement of your initial goals! Strive for more, do more, and live a complete life! Challenge yourself! I dare you! Sukhbir Singh is the Founder of LifeApps! Personal Development International Co., Ltd based in Bangkok, Thailand. On Achievement If a comatose person were to earn an interest of 1 million USD annually on the sum paid to him as compensatory damages ? would this be considered an achievement of his? To succeed to earn 1 million USD is universally judged to be an achievement. But to do so while comatose will almost as universally not be counted as one. It would seem that a person has to be both conscious and intelligent to have his achievements qualify. The Importance Of Having A Goal In Life At the age of twenty two, I read a book that described the importance of having a goal in life. In the books example, a survey had been carried out at a school. Students who had just taken their GCSE'S were asked to answer various questions, one of which asked, "Where would you like to be in five years time?" Breaking Goals Down To The Basics One of the primary reasons why people fail to execute their goals is they set forth unrealistic or overly complex goals. Most of us have the tendency to look at the finish line without paying much consideration to the distance between the end point and us. Here are a couple examples to illustrate this point: Setting Goals ? Things to Think About We hear a lot about the steps we should take to achieve our goals, however unless we take the first steps to realistically consider who and what we are right now ? our capabilities and interests ? and think logically about what we'd like to accomplish, our chances of achieving our "goal" are slim to none. Here are a few things to think about when you're trying to decide what you'd like to do. Achieving Goals: The Remaining 90% - Sheer Persistence Achieving goals requires persistence. Here's the proof: In 1915 Ty Cobb set up an amazing baseball record of stealing 96 bases. Seven years later Max Carey set the second-best record with 51 stolen bases. Goal Setting - Forget About It Many motivational speakers and self-help books will tell you that you must have goals. I've even advocated goal setting myself in the past. You write down your goals and detail them for family life, friends, finances, career, recreation, health, learning, education and your spiritual life. Use the Law of Attraction to Build Your Business Have you ever had something you wanted just fall into place; come to you through an out-of-the-blue phone call or by coincidentally meeting someone on the street? Have you ever met the perfect client or life partner--just by being at the right place at the right time? Plant! -- And Accept The Consequences! Welcome to Weekly Wisdoms. Last week I found a new way to communicate over the internet with audio. After you listen, if you'd like to try it for yourself, click here for a chance to make your own free audio postcard... Too cool! Have fun! What a busy week! The lumber package for the barn is on the way. Malcolm is here to saw up the rest of the logs for the siding. We are building a new riding arena. Three new potential clients. And we planted 3 acres of grass! Actually we put down twelve thousand pounds of lime, fertilizer, grass seed and clover seed. I feel like a farmer! I woke up this morning thinking about all that seed and what it might look like next year. Climb and Summit Mt. Goals Are you trying to reach a goal that feels like a large mountain to climb? Go For Success! Creating Business and Personal Goals that Inspire and Motivate Are you feeling motivated to set some strong goals for this year? Write down those New Year's resolutions and get going, right? Most people write down lofty resolutions that they think they should want and rarely stick to them, losing motivation and focus within three weeks of their "good intentions." Is it Focus or Tunnel Vision? To achieve success you must narrow your vision on your plan. The question you should consider, is it focus or tunnel vision? Motivation and Setting Your Goals Easy Steps for Goal Setting Go Beyond Goals And Achieve Your Dream! As important as goal setting is, goals alone do not ensure that you will achieve the success you desire. A written goal is not some kind of magic talisman whereby whatever you set your heart on manifests in your life out of thin air. That being the case, what is it that makes the difference between a person who achieves their goals and a person who doesn't? The answer can be summarised in a single word: lifestyle. The only difference between those who achieve their goals and those who don't is the way they live each day. Destiny does not determine your lifestyle. Your lifestyle determines your destiny! Goal-Mapping Goal-mapping is like a treasure hunt, you must first start out by knowing what you are looking for. Be very specific on what you want without limiting yourself. The next step is charting out what course of action you must take to get what you want. I encourage women to map out a treasure hunt on what they want in life, and to use that chart to reach their goals. That is exactly what I did to get my Ph.D. degree. I knew that I wanted to get my degree in psychology, and to write a book. My goal was to use my dissertation as a self-help book, and with the successful completion of my dissertation I could be awarded my degree. I enrolled in the Ph.D. program and completed all my core courses. One Life to Live Nothing stops us. Well, almost nothing. Although we do live in a world that whirls at breakneck speed, there are a few things that will stop us in our tracks. When tragedy strikes, our attentions are diverted from our normal hustle and bustle to the turmoil at hand. The perfect example of this is, of course, the world's reaction to the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States and the events following it. Focus on Your Goals Focus is the single most important factor that will determine whether your dreams come true or not. Depending on what your dreams are, there are so many rivers to cross. Some hurdles look quite formidable, and a lot of folks give up at the first sign of a setback. Be Discontented With The Status Quo It is natural to be satisfied with the way things are; but the moment we settle for how things are, we give up the opportunity to experience how things could be. Life is evolutionary, but only if we allow it to be. If we choose to, we can get stuck in the comfort of the status quo and miss the real opportunities that require us to step into a bigger life. Successful Goal Setting and Achievement The first step to success, of course, is to set a goal. You can't get anywhere if you're not heading in that direction. Intention is essential. Do Your Goals Match Your Passions? Making sure our goals are properly aligned with our passions only makes sense. If you have the wish to move up the corporate ladder, start your own business, or just about any other worthwhile endeavor you're going to make things a lot easier on yourself if you're working on things that get you personally excited and make you feel alive when you're working on them (i.e. following your passions). The Best Way to Quit Smoking: Fasting to Quit Most quit smoking books, maybe all of them won't tell you what I'm about to tell you next. Fasting is one of the best methods to quit smoking, if not the best. It will give you what you need to quit smoking. A lot of us feel we can't quit smoking but we can. We fast so God will give us what we need to finally quit for good. |
