Identity Theft ScamsJames H. Dimmitt Identity Theft scams continue to flourish on the web. One that you need to be aware of and beware of is any site that seems to be selling high-demand items digital cameras for instance at a much lower almost unbelievable price than you can find on other sites or the manufacturer’s site. Often the victim’s are told to pay nothing until they receive the merchandise. The person behind the scam uses the victim’s name and a credit card number belonging to another person to purchase the item at a legitimate site. Once the item is shipped, the victim then authorizes his credit card to be billed or sends payment directly to the scammer. The scammer has now put you in the position of being in receipt of stolen merchandise while they get away with your money. Another scam that still seems to be working is being contacted through e-mail by someone claiming to be from your credit card company, your internet service provider, Paypal, or Ebay. The scammer will send a message stating that your account information needs to be verified because their files were hacked into, their database crashed or they believe that someone has tried to steal your account information and they want to verify your information in order to protect your account. The con artist then uses the information supplied to “verify” your account to run up fraudulent charges. NEVER give personal information to a company, such as AOL or Ebay, that already has it. If you are suspicious about being contacted, contact the company yourself before giving out any personal information.

How Pre-Settlement Lawsuit Funding Works An injured person contacts a company that offers pre-settlement lawsuit funding, sometimes at the suggestion of an attorney. The finance company contacts the lawyer who is handling the case, and obtains information about the case. Based upon that information provided, the loan company estimates the value of the likely eventual settlement or verdict, and offers a cash advance to the injured person based upon that estimate. The fee may be a flat fee, or a monthly fee that accrues each month the loan is outstanding. When the case settles, or the defendant pays after losing in court, the loan and associated fees are paid to the finance company. Freedom of Religion We were all taught in school that our forefathers left England to escape religious dictatorships.Okay, there was a lot more to it then that, but it was a big enough deal that they made sure it got honorable mention in our rulebook. They clearly made the point that we were to have freedom of religion here in America. They also used the word "God" in some of their formal paperwork and even on our money.I dont want to argue politics here, but rather semantics. They didnt say "freedom of Christianity," they said "freedom of religion."The boys who wrote up all of our formal paperwork were wordsmiths and they debated long and hard to find the perfect set of words to govern ourselves by.It wasnt decided that we had the freedom to choose whichever form of Christianity that we liked, but whichever form of religion.Religion is in and of itself a much broader concept then Christianity."God" can mean a lot more then just the Christian definition too. Finding The Right Lawyer To Represent You Adjuster Henry Hustle from GiveAwayNothing Insurance tried to take advantage of you so you’ve decided to obtain the services of an attorney. Here are some insights you should consider: Turnitin.com Infringes Upon Students Rights Turnitin.com is undeniably an effective deterrent to plagiarism, but it is the very issue of copyright infringement that has people questioning the legality of the site. What many people dont understand is that works do not need to be registered to be copyrighted. Every literary work that is saved to a tangible medium this includes paper, computer disk, etc. is protected by federal copyright laws. Thus, the works submitted to Turnitin.com are copyrighted and the authors hold complete rights to the works. What the Turnitin.com system does, however, is it stores the submitted paper on their servers. This is done without the students permission. Turnitin.com is operating under the pretense that teachers will force their students to submit to Turnitin.com. Thus, student papers are stored in iParadigms the company that runs Turnitin.com database. This in itself is a blatant violation of the 1976 Federal Copyright Act. Turnitin.com is duplicating copyrighted material without the consent of the student. The student is forced to submit to the site, so submissions are not considered voluntary. In addition, the site does not ask for permission to store the paper, instead, it is done automatically. Protecting unmarried couples relationships A power of attorney is a legal document that allows you to dictate who you would like to make decisions on your behalf. Overwhelmed By Student Loan Debt Consider a Consolidate Student Loan A consolidate student loan is the perfect solution for people who need help managing their debt. If you have several different loan payments but want to make only one payment per month, you should apply for a Federal Consolidation Loan. With loan consolidation, your lender will combine your present loans into one single loan. If you do decide to get a consolidate student loan, you will pay interest on a fixed rate. The rate is determined by the average of your loans, and is averaged up to the nearest .125 percent. If you make direct loan electronic payments, you may get a lower interest rate. As student loan debt is usually not the largest debt a person has, it may make sense to include it in a consolidate student loan. The Hypocrisy of Insider Trading Laws Perhaps Walter Williams and I are the only two people on earth who can see the hypocrisy of insider trading laws. I somehow doubt it, though. Williams wrote a column about a year ago, lambasting these laws and Im going to pick up where he left off. These laws run counter the notion we accept in every other aspect of society that life is unfair. In every facet of life, there are people who have access to advantages that others do not have. However, we dont attempt to make these advantages illegal except when it comes to insider trading. " How the Jury System Should be Reformed Our current jury system is ailing. It is beginning to fail us. O.J. Simpson being found not guilty is just one example of that problem. People with loads of evidence against them are found not guilty, while others with far less evidence against them are found guilty. Mass murderers are often sentenced to life in prison, while many others who commit just one murder are sentenced to death. People tried separately for the same crime often get much different verdicts and/or much different sentences. I know the Constitution guarantees the accused a right to a jury of his or her peers, but times have changes over the last 200-plus years and we need to make adjustments accordingly. There are two changes I would suggest we make as soon as possible. |
