Quick Tips On Getting Motivated When You Dont Feel Like It
The secret to getting started on something when you don't feel like it, is surprising, but easy. Edward W. Smith, motivational speaker, author and TV show host, who specializes in quick tips on how to move your life ahead even faster, offers the following advice. The secret to starting something when you don't feel like it, is using what he calls the "Act As If" technique. With this technique, you act as if you feel like doing something, even though you don't. You go through the motions of doing what you are avoiding, and act happy and excited about doing it. You exaggerate your feelings on the positive side, while you are beginning to perform the task. Your body "fools" your mind into thinking you really want to do the task, and your mind changes itself into a positive view about the project. This works on basic mood changes as well. If you are in a bad mood and want to be in a good mood, you would stand up, march around the room with your head high, smiling, signing and acting happy. Within 3 minutes you really will be in a good mood. Contact Information Copyright Edward W. Smith 2005 Edward W. Top 4 Reasons Women Ride The ?Emotional Roller-Coaster? 1. Women have learned and are in the habit of being driven by the approval of others. Most women allow the expectations of others to define them and therefore making the approval of others is responsible for their happiness. This pattern gives others' the power to make and take your happiness at any time. Approval seeking steals your happiness and doesn't allow you to ever get to know yourself, your wants, your desires, or your needs. A total disconnect. Thus an up and down roller-coaster of emotions. Keeping Perspective: When Bad Things Happen That Are Not Life Threatening The very first thing to question is how important is this in the overall scheme of life? Compared to all of the things that have happened, are happening, and could happen in my life - how bad is this? Is it something that will impact the rest of my life? Is it temporary? Although the pain may not feel like it's temporary, it usually is. It's important to get a perspective. If your car has been stolen, that's a major nuisance that will cost you time and money to replace, but how does that compare to a diagnosis of cancer? If your marriage is ending, it can be extremely painful, but your life will continue no matter how bleak circumstances may seem. So wouldn't it be easier to find a way to transcend the pain and move on, let go, and take away the power from the negativity? Wouldn't it be more pleasant to look at the 'bright side'? and yes! There always is a flip side! It may not be one you believe in at the moment, it may not be where you want to focus, but there IS another perspective. Commit to Doing 80% Instead of trying to be perfect, it is better to do your best, and often your best doesn't look like going all out all the time. This is especially true when you are making changes in your life. Instead of setting yourself up for disappointment and failure, allow yourself some room to breathe and not be perfect. Life is a process and it takes time, so commit to doing your best 80% of the time and implement the new change slowly, but consistently. |
