Is Your Passion Fizzling Out?
Starting a business or project is one thing, keeping it running successfully is another issue. Do you recall the initial enthusiasm, drive and passion you had, when you were working on setting up your business or project? You spent countless hours working on it, researching about it, making calls to people whose assistance you required, dreamed about it and even told everyone who could listen about it?do you recall that passion? You had the commitment, determination and the passion to make it happen. However, it's just been about a few months since your project took off and the motivation and zeal to run the business is gone. You feel uninspired, drained and have little or no energy to continue to work creatively and enthusiastically on your business or project! You are slowly but surely losing your passion and the big question in your mind is "how do I get back my passion"? The following 5 tips will help you rekindle that passion and allow you to keep your dream alive. 1. Close the gap of disinterest ASAP. The gap of disinterest widens with each day you fail to do something about rekindling your passion. The more you stay away from the subject matter, the quicker and the more permanent the loss of passion becomes. Immerse yourself in material related to the subject matter. Read articles related to your project. Join clubs or associations of similar relevance and participate in its activities either as an active member or as a volunteer. Find creative new ways of doing things. Doing things in the same old way that does not produce results will frustrate you and consequently cause your passion to fizzle out. Whatever you chose to do?stay interested in the subject! 2. Push yourself. Even if the initial euphoria of achievement is waning, your work still has to go on. It's up to you to motivate yourself and keep pushing to keep the dream alive. Even if your passion is fizzling out, someone still has to keep your business doors open and complete your projects; that person is you! This is your work, your project and your business. It is up to you to keep it afloat. You have to go the extra mile to ensure that your business or project becomes a success. You have come such a long way? overcoming obstacles, investing your time, energy and resources to get yourself to this point. Push yourself! 3. Get yourself a coach. Investing in a coach is a great way to rekindle the passion for your dream. A coach will hold you accountable for your dream, challenge, support, motivate and work with you on a regular basis to ensure that you stick with it. Having someone objective to act as a sounding board and to provide fresh perspectives is a great way to get your passion back! Coaches do a great job in reconnecting you back to your passion and also help to bring out your ability for greatness. This is a great way to stir up your passion. 4. Commit to the process of success As you work on your business or project, make a commitment to see yourself through every situation you encounter. Every journey of life, has obstacles to be faced and overcome. There are periods when you will have high energy and other times when you not feel like getting up in the morning! These are all part of the process of life and success. You must therefore commit yourself 100 percent, mentally, financially and time wise to ensure that you keep your dream alive. Be prepared to do all you can and be willing to do your best, to ensure your success. 5. Set a deadline for yourself. Write a to-do list of all the things that you have been planning to accomplish and which have remained undone because your passion has fizzled out. Give yourself a one or two-week deadline to accomplish these tasks. For example, if you want to write a book?commit to writing at least 10 pages within two weeks. If you want to attract more customers for your business, commit to coming up with a winning sales strategy within a week. Deadlines allow you to act within specified time frames, propel you in the right direction and motivate you to keep the dream alive. A Quick Observation of the Low Class We can all learn a valuable lesson about the types of behavior and attitudes to avoid like the plague, simply by observing the characteristics of people we all know are low class. Being low class is not a function of the lack of money or social status. I've seen rich people and those high on the social ladder who were very low class. I've also observed folks who were living below the poverty level and low on the social scale who were very high class people. It also has nothing to do with race or ethnic background. Instead, being low class is strictly a matter of behavior and attitudes. Book Summary: Self Motivation Gail Lindenfield is a well-known British author who has written several self-help books. In Self Motivation, she does a good job of going over many aspects of self development and she provides solutions to a variety of everyday problems. Desire + Action = Outcome ? Anxiety & Panic This is my mathematical strategy I use to achieve everything I want in life. Allow me to explain? Letting Go Of Our Negativity Everyone has something, whether it be a habit, or aspect of their personality, that they wish that they didn't have. For me, that something is fear. I am constantly afraid of just about anything you could name...car crashes, meeting new people, tornados, driving in the dark, sleeping with the closet open, public speaking...you name it, I'm probably afraid of it! This is a negative habit, and certainly one I would like to change. Most people can name at least one similar habit or personality trait off the top of their head. Think about it for a moment. What part of yourself would you truly like to be rid of? Now take that part of you, and imagine it disappearing forever. If you want, you can even make it more physical and real by writing that trait down on a piece of paper, then burying it or destroying it. Prime That Pump! Part 3 How healthy is your vision of yourself? How does your mental image of yourself stack up against that of, say, some hero of yours? Let's find out. A Reality Practice Suggested practice to gain freedom from self-limitation. Motivation By A Challenge Many humans are motivated by the thought of doing something they or others think they cannot do. They don't want to do what they already know they can do. Overcoming the Fear of Getting Started Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy. -- Dale Carnegie Wake Up to the Life You Love While speaking at a San Diego university recently, I was fortunate that I was not asked to leave the stage. You see, I chose to share with the students in my audience some frightening statistics. I announced that, while many would receive their degrees, few ? very few ? would end up pursuing careers in their chosen field. At this point, the faculty began giving me dirty looks. ADHD - Its a Wonderful Life As I usually do over the Holidays, I watched one of my all-time favorite actors in one of my all time favorite movies and that's Jimmy Stewart in "It's a Wonderful Life". Co-starring Donna Reed and made in the 1940s, the movie was not critically acclaimed at the time, but over the years has become a stable of the Holiday Season. If you have not seen it, you need to, and if you have, then you all know it revolves around a small town businessman George Bailey from Bedford Falls, New York, who, as he grows up, has all of these dreams of doing wonderful things with his life, and hopes of traveling to all the farthest points in the world. His plans are constantly interrupted by world events and family circumstances, which include the death of his father, the great depression, and World War II. George's father and his Uncle Billy years earlier had started the Baileys Brothers Building and Loan to help the less fortunate people of Bedford Falls obtain the great American Dream of home ownership. Their only alternative is high rent or exorbitant interest rates to the local scrooge Mr. Potter. Uncle Billy is a classic ADHD type individual. An Irishmen, like me, who apparently has never been married, has a pet crow he carries around with him, and a pet squirrel at home. He is constantly worrying and has little self esteem. Extreme Makeover ? Compliments of Me There is a fascination these days with reality shows that completely make over people, rooms, homes, businesses and now towns, in a short amount of time. I have to admit, I love them too. I love the neat story with a happy ending. They make it look easy, in spite of the pain and hard work many of them have to endure. People have always had this fascination. It's no different than the old shows (and I'm dating myself here) like Bewitched, where Samantha, who was a witch, would just twitch her nose and, Voila! ? her house was clean as a whistle. To go even further back, there was a very popular show called The Millionaire, where a mysterious benefactor would come anonymously with a check for a million dollars and transform someone's life. Motivation By Daily Applause One of our most powerful psychological needs is the craving to be appreciated by our fellow humans. Often the quickest way to receive the applause we desire is to keep working hard without it. Those who work hard on their own in private usually end up receiving applause in public. Just the thought of this future applause can provide powerful motivation. Even Though As often happens following one of the Best Year Yet programs I do, a message emerges for Monday Morning Coach. Recently I conducted a BYY workshop and what struck me was how often participants (I include myself in this group, since each time I present it, I am also vicariously examining my own life) stop themselves from taking action because of the underlying belief that they don't have "enough," or aren't enough (smart enough, thin enough, ready enough, etc.) to make things happen. Are You a Self-Saboteur? Take this questionnaire to get clear on what you may be doing to undermine your own success and happiness in life. An explanation of your score awaits at the end. How To Get Through A Bad Day No matter how hard you try to make them otherwise, some days are just awful. They start off bad, they never get any better, and they end on a low and sometimes even gloomier note. These days befuddle your mind, waste your finite resources and throw your calendar off. Some people call the state of mind accompanying this day 'depression' or are content to simply think of it as 'having a bad day'. Sometimes there are logical explanations ? mostly, though, these days seem to strike at will and we don't understand how or why they have entered our lives. What Are You Waiting For? It's the new millenium. Are you ready to finally realize your dream? I'm talking about the desire that you carry deep down inside of you that you attribute to some adolescent fancy. It's the dream that isn't practical and can't possible be fulfilled. Well, it is possible to fulfill it and the time to do so is now. Becoming Rich in Your Own Way If you really want to become rich, then begin by evaluating your work habits and work environment. That's how most millionaires made their first million. According to Dr. Srully Blotnick, a psychologist and consultant who spent 20 years studying how people became rich, most millionaires didn't make their money in real estate, the stock market, or waiting for their ship to come in. The Story Of A King And Three Maidens ? Six Keys To A Successful Relationship A King was trying to choose between three maidens to be his wife and queen. Well, there are certain requirements (accountability, responsibility, commitment to yourself, forgiveness, positive think and speak, synchronicity within and outside) to help facilitate a real change. Commit To Applying Lessons Learned When growing up as a child, the concept of learning a lesson becomes so routine, that many of us just set it aside as unimportant like many other principles that otherwise should be heeded. |
