Stretch!
"Only as high as I reach can I grow, Only as far as I seek can I go, Only as deep as I look can I see, Only as much as I dream can I be" Karen Raven In spite of the unpredictable weather (tropical heat, then snow blizzards!) it is Spring! (Or is it early Summer? I can't tell!) With Spring comes the chance to be outside more ? even if it is dodging between rain showers! I know, the weather isn't really playing ball at the moment, but couldn't you be? After a winter conserving energy and warmth inside, and of lovely comfort foods, it is time to shake yourself off and become more active, to add more movement to your life and to begin to breathe. When you wake in the morning, instead of rolling out of bed groaning, take a moment to throw back the covers, raise your arms above your head and stretch! Take deep breaths and really welcome the start of a new day. This is a day full of possibilities! Have fun adding more movement into your daily life. Dance, whenever or wherever. It doesn't really matter what other people think of you as you take the floor at the supermarket! In fact, you'll make them smile, which has to be good! Run up and down stairs. Enjoy every feeling in your body as you relearn how each muscle works and moves. Join a friend on a walk, or for a swim. It doesn't have to cost much, if anything at all. Borrow a fitness video from the library. Try them all out to find which appeals to you. We all are unique, so our choice of exercise will be personal to us. There will be more warm days. Why not stretch yourself out on the grass? Extend your arms and legs and really reach. Don't forget to keep breathing. It is not only your body that needs a good stretch. Your mind also needs to be exercised regularly. There are so many things that you can do to stimulate those 'little grey cells', as Agatha Christie's Poirot called them. What appeals to you? Learn something new every day, for pleasure or for improvement at work. How about joining the Library and making the most of the resources there? If you're going abroad on holiday, you could make a stab at learning a new language. If you are staying in your own country, how about researching the local history of the area you are visiting? Or the local history of the area you live in? Embrace change and challenges. Stretch towards a dream. What do you need to learn to get you closer to that dream? Make it happen by taking the first steps. Stretch your voice ? sing! Listen to a different kind of music. Even if you don't particularly like it, it will make you think. Smile ? stretch those facial muscles. Reach out to other people and make conversation with people you don't know. Pass the time of day. Have a curiosity about the world you live in and the people who populate it. Push yourself. What skills and abilities would you like to learn? Enrol in a class, read up on the subject. Practice. Make a special effort to stretch yourself. Why do this? If you keep doing what you've always done, you'll keep getting what you always got! So take a chance. You will feel positive and confident about yourself, and by developing new skills you will be opening yourself up to new experiences and opportunities and the chance to make new friends. By stretching your body, you will feel better in all aspects of your life and will be physically prepared for anything that comes your way. Don't look back and think 'if only??????..' STRETCH! The Downward Spirals Of Life - Top Ten Steps For Freeing Ourselves From Some people call them vicious circles or cycles. I prefer to think of them as downward spirals of life. Those periods that we can all become trapped in like the whirlpool of water as it drains from the tub. If we're not careful and mindful these downward spirals can suck the life right out of us. Here are a few simple and effective steps you can use to free yourself of such life sucking periods. Know your Mission One passage states "If you want to defeat them, distract them." Another reads "divide and conquer." 2 Simple Ways To Cure Procrastination Curing procrastination is not necessarily about will power or forcefully advancing in your goals but rather it is about learning why we procrastinate, what we are afraid of and finding ways to face those fears in order to move forward in our lives. Succeed Like the Super-Successful Two undeniable traits of the super-successful are: their belief in self, and an uncompromising expectation that they will succeed ... no matter what. Their dreams and goals are real. So real, these individuals stay inspired despite any and all obstacles before them. The super-successful distinguish themselves by believing and doing differently from everyone else. They sustain an attitude of fervent expectancy and have a relentless passion for success. These two components fuel their entire belief system. So, just what is the belief system of the super-successful? It's as simple premise: "My goals are well on their way to being achieved. It's a "done-deal!" Take a Turn at Tenacious! "Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'press on' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race." Calvin Coolidge Who Is The Inner Critic? The inner critic is that voice inside your head that tells you that you aren't good enough, smart enough, talented enough, pretty enough, or strong enough. It nags and natters at you to the point that your self confidence and sense of bravery is destroyed. You are convinced that the voice is correct and that you really don't have what it takes to live out your wildest dreams. As time goes on, you quit setting meaningful goals. You become resigned to a life of mediocrity and dullness. Victorious Living How are things going for you? Are you sitting on top of the world or at the bottom of a pile of problems? Were you born with a silver spoon in your mouth or raised on the wrong side of the tracks? Do you say that life dealt you a bad hand? Know what? You are in good company. Everyone has their share of troubles. When Do You Enjoy Things the Most? It's a very strange concept. When you are in a place for a very long time, you don't really enjoy it. In fact, you might actually start to complain about it. However, when you are about to leave that place, you finally see something beautiful in the place and you actually enjoy your last 2 months there. You see the most that you can and you've never noticed them before. How To Become More Patient "Lord give me patience ? and hurry!" Are You a Self-Saboteur? Take this questionnaire to get clear on what you may be doing to undermine your own success and happiness in life. An explanation of your score awaits at the end. Motivation: Good Luck or Bad Luck, Too Soon to Tell As the story goes, there was once a farmer and his only son in the days just before the Civil War. Having only one horse, the farmer and son worked long hard days, sun up to sun down, just to get by, with nothing left to spare. Three Fs and a Challenge It's no secret that life is a tricky animal to understand and it's even harder to tame it so that it delivers what you want. But from my work in the world of personal development I've figured out three simple things that can transform any situation, any problem, any issue...and any life. Three things that once in place can bring the best out of you, bring the best to you and allows you to enjoy all of it. What are these three things? I call them the Three F's - Fun, Fulfillment and Freedom. Believe It's like that old joke about how long did it take Bell to discover the light bulb. Then realizing it was Edison who did it. Though I like to think he developed it rather than discovered. He was much more methodical and had a set goal in mind. Making Things Happen We are all given the tools, but it is up to us what we decide to build and how magnificent it will be. Steven Ferrel Get Out of Your Comfort Zone - Before Its Too Late Think about what you're doing each day and ask yourself - "Is what I'm doing now getting me to where I want to get to?" If the answer is "No" then do something different. Get out of your comfort zone and change your habits. Boy, I tell you....it seems the world is just going crazy these days! The economy is going haywire, the war is started, and things just seem to be out of control! Face Your Fears Yes, that's me up there! Interestingly enough, I used to be deathly afraid of heights. I'm not suggesting para sailing is the best way to overcome a fear of heights but it worked for me. Sometimes, the only way through a fear is to meet it head on. That's what I did in this case. Breaking Even: When is Enough, Enough? I had the most interesting discussion today with a friend of mine. He and I were chatting about the economy, his job, families, and life in general. The one point that he kept raising was that of his "needing to do more" to pay the bills, be with his family, get promoted at work, fix the hot water heater, etc. It's always the "need to do more" to better accommodate more. Quick Tips On Getting Motivated When You Dont Feel Like It The secret to getting started on something when you don't feel like it, is surprising, but easy. |
