The Power of Goals - Gordon the Tank Engine
Lately I have been studying mindset and goals, and wanted to share a Success story in our family. Our 3 year old Quinn is potty training, and has had a huge goal to get "Gordon the tank engine". We were having a hard time getting him accustomed to the idea of using the toilet, until one day we went to Barnes and Noble. Was it a book on Potty training you might ask???? No!! We were looking in the Kids section, and up on the top shelf, Quinn eyed a Gordon Engine toy. Quinn has always been a fan of Thomas, but this was a burning desire. For the next hour every word that came out of his mouth was "Gordon", and it ended in a screaming fit when we tried to leave. As I was doing research on goals. I thought "Hey lets give this a shot" So I sat Down with Quinn and told him that if he went Potty in the toilet for one week, he could have Gordon. He smiled and said "Gordon"...I said you can have it, but you have to work for it. The next day my wife made him a chart. On the chart was a train track, with picture of Gordon. Each day that he completed his goal of going Potty in the toilet, he could move Gordon one stop closer to the end of the track. Everyday we would go over the chart and talk about Gordon. We built the dream with him, and showed him pictures, and games of Gordon online. Well today Quinn finished his week long trek and we are going to buy Gordon tomorrow.! Congratulations Quinn!!! So how does this apply to you and I????? Well Quinn had a huge dream.. he wanted that train. We set a goal that was a stretch for him to achieve his dream of the toy. We tracked his daily progress and reviewed his dream VS. his actions. It wasn't until he achieved his goal that he got his dream. You can have it, but you have to work for it. Set goals..track it daily.. review your goals...make your dream come true!!! What Words Will They Chisel Into Your Tombstone? One day you will inevitably die. A morbid statement, I know, but one that is true. I don't want to upset you so let me say this - hopefully that day will be a long, long way off. However, I have a question for you now. Discovering Your Values In the last newsletter we talked about 'Your Reason Why', and how having emotional reasons for doing things gives them real power. And, well, frankly, it shouldn't be. Master Your Destiny Do you have a goal for the future that you would love to achieve but just can't work out how? Well, you can succeed. Believe and it will happen! How? Well read on and see. Have you heard the expression ' MIND OVER MATTER '? Do you really understand what that means? Well quite simply, your mind has two areas: the subconscious and the conscious, it is the subconscious to which the expression relates. The subconscious mind is 88% of the volume and is your 'automatic pilot', keeping the heart beating, lungs breathing and millions of other things that ensure that we survive. The subconscious has other powerful functions. If you allow it, it will protect you and provide solutions to problems, if the right questions are asked. Seven Deadly Enemies That Stop You From Reaching Your Goals Everybody on this planet has enemies, rivals and foes. Call them any way you like, but nevertheless they exist, chasing you at every step you make. Nobody knows where they come from, but the fact of their existence was detected on the planet and still nobody knows completely the effective remedy from them. They spoil our lives; put the spokes in our wheel, making tricky endeavors to distract us. The biggest nuisance they cause is that they prevent us from reaching success in life. The only way out of this situation is to disclose them and to wipe them out once and for all. Goal Setting - My Disappointing Discovery Goal setting has become almost an industry in itself with countless books and techniques available online and in published form promising to help you achieve your most cherished desires. I have read many articles and looked at many products in the course of keeping up-to-date in my profession. The Great American Dream Challenge Pull Quote: "the secret to living a "dream come true" life is to believe in your dream simply because it matters to you." The 12 Commandments of Goal Setting Many professionals have a basic idea of what they want to achieve in their careers. They may want to close more sales, earn a higher income, or move into a different job. However, somehow they do not achieve the success they desire. Why? Why is it that intelligent, motivated, hard-working individuals are not achieving the success they deserve? It is because they haven't set clear goals. Whats the Next Action Step? Nothing gets done unless an action is completed. Everything we do is an action step. Of course some are so routine they don't really need to be written down or remembered. They are simply habit or ingrained in our daily lives. Wake up. Go to the bathroom. Say your prayers. Read the sports section of the newspaper. Take a shower. Brush your teeth. Get dressed. Drive to work. Do you have these tasks written down in your planner? Of course not. But they are still action tasks. You don't get cleaned until you wash up. You don't know how the Phillies did last night until you read the sports section. Six keys to keys build vision - point four 4. Recognize the source and purpose of vision How To Become A Polished Public Speaker In Just One (1) Day The fear of speaking in public ranks right up there with the fear of death. I had the same fear myself until I was chosen to be an electronics trainer for the Air Force. It was only then I realized just how afraid and lousy at speaking I really was. I went to my first day of the 8 week training course excited and looking forward to learning a skill that many have never mastered. I soon found out I was really terrible and needed a lot of practice. Keeping the Dream Alive Like the song by Linda Ronstadt, "a dream is a wish that your heart makes." To lose a dream is to die a little yourself. It means closing down the part of you that can soar above the reality of your current life to see new and exciting possibilities. Great Goals Make You Stretch! I began enhancing my personal energy level three months shy of my 40th birthday and after 2 years of struggling with clinically-diagnosed depression. During this same period, I was challenged, immensely by the debilitating effects of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and being rendered permanently partially disabled as the result of being involved in two car accidents in six days (neither of which was I at fault). I recall an incredible sense of emptiness and a daunting feeling of being completely overwhelmed; especially when trying to figure out which pills went with what ills. Unable to return to the vocation I loved, I received disability payments and simply existed. Most of my time was spent in bed where I eventually became 48 pounds "over-fat." When dreams and reasons for living are wiped out by the greatest, of the least unexpected, most people priorities typically change. My priorities? Well, they just disappeared. I was defeated physically, emotionally, psychologically, spiritually and knocking on "Financially's" door. Making the bed was not a priority; it simply went unmade. And when it came down to paying the bills, many went unpaid. One day I was moved enough to actually cultivate the emotion of being "fed up!" During this awakening, I made the decision to reclaim complete responsibility for my life. And I did. The Focus Wheel The Focus Wheel was first described by Abraham-Hicks as a tool to help us clarify and fix our focus on what we truly desire. If you have been practicing "deliberate attraction" for a while, then you know from experience that: Achieving Your Goals You may or may not have a set of written goals. If you do not, then I strongly urge you to make a written set of goals and clarify what you want to achieve. Whatever the case, you may be struggling with achieving your goals in life. In this article, you will learn some techniques for achieving your goals. Make Your Goals Stick The amazing thing about the future is that if you wait, it will always come to you. No doubt you sat down and created your share of New Year's resolutions to conquer this year. The unfortunate truth, however, is that most people's resolutions fizzle and die before the first quarter is even over. It doesn't have to be this way ? with a few key steps, you can be well on your way to goal-getting instead of just goal-setting and turn your resolutions into real solutions. Goal Believing is the First Step to Goal Achieving We've just gone from "the Holiday Season" to the "Goal Setting Season." Each year, about the time we turn our calendars to a New Year, we hear a lot about goal setting (even though it is sometimes disguised as information about making your New Year's Resolutions). While the research and polls show that most people don't set goals, most everyone thinks about it at this time of the year. One Stroke at a Time "One stroke at a time." In an interview, Tiger Woods shared this simple formula for success. He further revealed that his habit to focus on the task at hand and not the previous stroke nor the next stroke keeps him self-disciplined. Tiger's recent 4th win of the Masters and being the first golfer to achieve this accomplishment before the age of 30 reaffirms his personal success formula. |
